Top 10 Restaurants of Australia

Number 10 - Royal Mail Hotel

Cuisine: Modern Australian/Contemporary
Location: Dunkeld, VIC

Number 10 in our list of top ten restaurants of Australia is Rob Wicken's Royal Mail Hotel. Previous head chef Dan Hunter (2007 - 2013) saw the rise of Royal Mail Hotel into the upper echelons of Australia's restaurant awards earning 3 hats in the 2012 Good Food Guide.

The restaurant is set in the small town of Dunkeld in regional Victoria amidst the beautiful scenery of the Grampian Ranges. Much of the produce is grown organically in the restaurant's own gardens, sourced from local producers or just hand picked from the surrounding wild. Daily harvesting of produce thus drives the philosophy of show casing purity of flavour, which is combined with technique and technology to create dishes that are fairly simple in their breadth of flavours but display great intensity, balance and textural variety. The wine list is one the most impressive in Australia, showing great breadth and depth of vintage with a extensive list of both Bordeaux and Burgundy, it has earned many national and international awards.
